15/2/2017 - Cataract Post Op - Medisoft Logins


Medisoft has sent out emails to everyone today to confirm their registration with the Medisoft portal to input Cataract Post Op information. Please check your junk folders for the email.


If you have not recieved an email and you are registered with the Cataract Module on Opotomanger please email Ankur Trivedi by email ( in the first instance.

An updated practice list where the flashes and floaters service is available has been published. It can be found here (look under downloads).


12/12/2016 - Children's Vision Service


PEG had a launch event on the 7th December. The event was led by PEG Operations Director - Kerry Irvine and local optometrist - Kevin Tait. Thank you to Communications Director, Dermot Keogh for hosting the event at his practice in Cheltenham.


Attendance at the event is not mandatory for participation in the service.


The service goes live on 4th January 2017, and referrals should start to arrive in practice around the end of January 2017.

9/8/2016 - Flashes and Floaters service

The new 'Flashes and Floaters' service will launch on the 3rd October. In preparation all optometrists looking to provide the new service need to complete the WOPEC Minor Eye Conditions Service (MECS) module. Please contact Adrian Street (Gloucestershire LOC Secretary) to request your module code.

9/8/2016 - Cataract: Post Op Follow-Up: Update
There has been a delay in the Hospital Eye Service (HES) releasing the patients to the community service. This is being worked on and we should start receiving referrals for these patients in the next 2 weeks. We will keep you updated.
4/7/2016 - Cataract: Post Op Follow-Up: Bookings from Ophthalmology start from today
From today patients having uncomplicated cataract surgery on their second eye will be offered a choice of community practice to have their post-op follow up.
Contact form the HES will be in the form of a phone call and/or fax asking for the patient to be booked in four weeks time for the necessary appotintment.
16/4/2016 - Local Fundraising. 
One of our local consultant colleagues, Prof. Andy McNaught is part of a team enrolled to run a 10km race in the Forest of Dean on May 8th 2016. They are hoping to raise money for Gloucestershire Eye Therapy Trust (GETT).

7/4/2016 - Direct Cataract Referral has been brought forward to 'go live' on 31st May 2016. 
We will be discussing this service at the launch event on 12th April 2016.

7/3/2016 - Enhanced Community Optometry Services

We are pleased to announce that the Gloucestershire LOC formed company Primary Eyecare Gloucestershire (PEG) has negotiated with the Gloucestershire CCG to deliver Enhanced Community Optometry Services as follows:

  • Glaucoma
    • Repeat Readings
    • Enhanced Case Finding
  • Children's Vision
  • Specified Minor Eye Conditions (Flashes and Floaters: Phase 1)
  • Cataract
    • Cataract Direct Referral
    • Cataract Post-Operative (2nd Eye Follow-up: Phase1)

We encourage all practitioners to respond with their intention to participate in the scheme by Monday 14th March 2016.

The first launch event will be for the Glaucoma service on Tuesday 12th April 2016 at Kingsholm stadium. This will be a 6pm start time. This will include training in readiness for ‘go live’ on 31st May 2016.
